How We Choose Gifts
Every guide is written by our editors to answer a real question: what's a good gift for this person, at this budget?
Researched vs. tested
Researched picks are chosen through editorial research: who the gift suits, how useful it is day to day, common buyer considerations and compatibility issues. Most of our guides are researched.
Tested picks are only labeled "tested" when we have actually used the product. We never claim hands-on testing we didn't do.
What we look for
- Everyday usefulness
- Good fit for the recipient
- Low risk of "already have it"
- Honest considerations, not just positives
What we never do
- Fake reviews, ratings or testing claims
- Copy product descriptions or customer reviews
- Claim deals, trending status or delivery dates we haven't verified
- Let commissions decide what we recommend
- Say one store is cheaper without verified, current price data
How stores and programs pay us
Amazon and other stores (for example Target or Walmart, when we join their programs) may pay Gift Scout a commission when you buy through our links. Some services, like audiobook or reading memberships, may pay us a fixed amount when someone signs up. This does not decide what we recommend. We pick gifts first, then add links to stores that carry them. When we show more than one store, they are listed in our editorial order — not by price, and not by what we earn.
